The Investor

Atelier Kastelet - art gallery & caffe

Admired Limited a privately owned corporation is the sole investor of Atelier Kaštelet. The company has purchased a property in Split, Croatia, with the purpose of establishing an art gallery.

People of every status, and no matter what their goals are intrigued by the idea of investing in art. This is partially because there is a sense of prestige associated with owning art that will never change, even if its financial value deteriorates, and partially because in these insecure times, the art market has performed well at an historic level across every sector. We intend to build an innovative business model which will be both sustainable and profitable. To this end we are seeking either business or franchise opportunities.

The property consists of a studio formerly used by the pre-eminent exponent of Croatian modern sculpture, Ivan Meštrović ( 15 August 1883, Vrpolje, Slavonia, Austria-Hungary [now in Croatia]— 16 January, 1962, South Bend, Indiana, USA), who was known for his boldly figurative monumental sculptures and reliefs.

The son of Croatian peasants, Meštrović was apprenticed to a marble cutter at the age of 13, and three years later entered the Vienna Academy, where he studied until 1904. He exhibited at the Vienna Secession exhibitions and at the Austrian exhibition at Earl’s Court in London in 1906. In 1908–09 Meštrović lived in Paris where he exhibited works at the Salon d’Automne and later at the Salon des Artistes Français. These garnered much attention and led to his friendship with the sculptor Auguste Rodin who described Meštrović as "the greatest phenomenon among sculptors." In 1909, after two years of intense sculpting, the Secession gallery in Vienna offered Meštrović a show featuring a comprehensive collection of his work. In 1911 his participation in the Serbian Pavilion of the International Exhibition in Rome affirmed Meštrović's international significance as a sculptor.
